Andrew Potocnik

Andrew Potocnik

Ever since childhood I loved working with wood. Later it was my good fortune to have a teacher who believed in creative rather than conventional use of wood. He encouraged me to salvage and recycle wood and taught me to appreciate it for its colour, smell, feel, grain and any other intrinsic quality it may have.

Andrew is a second generation Slovenian Australian, born in Melbourne. By profession he is an Arts and Crafts teacher, specializing in woodwork and woodturning. He conducts seminars and workshops in Australia, New Zealand and USA. He is leading Australian wood artist who has won awards for his woodcraft objects.

I continue to explore all those wonderful qualities every piece of wood conceals, just needing a sympathetic cut to expose and celebrate its beauty and the way it is integrated into the culture and general existence.

The works of Andrew Potočnik are exhibited extensively in Australia, USA, New Zealand, Germany, the Internet and Slovenian festivals.
