Marica Podobnik

Marica Podobnik

Her many lace shapes are collected in albums for safe/keeping. She became well known as bobbin lace maker, the special technique, traditional in Slovenia, and was in great demand for demonstrations at festivals and schools.

Marica was born in Cerkno, Slovenia in 1922, and trained as a seamstress. Even as a child she was interested in handicraft skills, and learnt bobbin lace making from her mother. She arrived in Australia in 1954, and continued with bobbin lace making.
