Marta Magajna



Marta likes making wall tapestries with Slovenian motifs, national costumes and decorating Easter eggs. She made the first avba in 1975, and 2 navijačke, a simpler version of national costume head covering, for younger girls. Together with Hilda Černko and Marija Gombac she created later a more elaborate version of avba to be used in folklore activities.

Martha Magajna was born in Bevke near Vrhnika in Slovenia and migrated to Australia in 1968. She is active within the Slovenian in community, and organizes social and cultural events. For many years she has been leading the Sydney Slovenian Drama Group, which has performed for Slovenian associations interstate.
