Karl Knap

Karl likes to work with wood, carving and constructing. In 1985 he carved and embellished with traditional motifs, a miniature Slovenian traditional country house - to serve as a bread box. He also makes delicate porcelain pieces.

Karl was born in Cerknica, near the phenomenal vanishing lake of Cerknica. He left Slovenia in 1958 to start a new life in Australia. He lived in Melbourne, the suburb of St. Albans where many Slovenes had settled.

After fifteen years he moved to Queensland, where he still lives. He has always been active in Slovenian social clubs and has been elected president of the Slovenian club Planinka in 2009.
