Marija Gomboc

Marija Gomboc

She began to interest herself seriously in handicrafts in 1980, when she ordered books from Readers Digest and began to study. She learnt bobbin lace-making completely on her own, and continued to produce a variety of handicrafts till 2000. She would love to do more bobbin lace products. Her work brings the home country closer, particularly the tapestries with Slovenian landscapes.

Marija Gomboc was born in a large family at farm homestead in Gorenja vas, Poljanska dolina in Slovenia. She remembers working very hard when she was growing up, helping her father and mother. She left to find an easier life in Australia in 1957. In Australia she occupied herself mainly with child day care in her home, while taking care of her own children. She is retired now. Her eyesight is weaker and her household tasks are taking most of her free time.
