Cuderman Mirko



He likes working within the Slovenian community and creating with wood and steel, usually items that remind him of Slovenia, his country of birth. Mirko shares his handicrafts creations with friends and family, He is particularly proud of Triglav gate made of leaded iron, leading to the property of his friend Ivan Podobnik.

Born in Orehovlje near Kranj - in Slovenia, Mirko Cuderman learnt metal trade at Ključavničarstvo Kranj. He came to Melbourne in 1960 as a refugee when only nineteen. In 1963 he married Anica Molan and moved with his family to Queensland in 1966. Till his retirement he worked as fitter and turner. He has also taken on the role of archivist for Queensland Slovenes. He likes living in Queensland with its relaxed lifestyle. In Queensland he got involved with Slovenian Community, 6 years as president, many years as editor of the club’s newsletter Glas Planinke.
