Marija Brne

Her most beautiful work are table-cloths made of Idrija lace. What is most surprising about her is that she learned to make bobbin-lace when she was seventy. Her motivation, good-natured energy and determination helped her to learn something new in her old age and she became an excellent master at making bobbin-lace.

“I started to learn it at the religious centre in Kew, where we gathered twice a month. Because it was hard to get bobbins and the other accessories, the course soon came to an end. Since I was interested in lace, I further taught myself from books that I found in the Kew library. I enjoyed it greatly and so I learnt it very well.”
